Public Relations specialists are skilled in building and managing relationships. Trust and respect are two of the most important factors when dealing with Public Relations relationships. In order to achieve beneficial relationships between organizations themselves or with the publics, trust and respect must be present.


Public Relations specialists have the responsibility to create these relationships between stakeholders; including, consumers, employees, publics, media, and investors. Through communicating strategically, they are able to become trustworthy in a way that is essential for a successful organization. Here are a few tips to creating and maintaining relationships that will not only make the organization happy, but stakeholders too.


  1. Be clear: Having clarity between an organization and whomever, is one of the main factors PR specialists need to focus on when beginning to create relationships. This can began with identifying clear communication channels that allow for effective engagement with stakeholders. These communications channels can range from social media platforms, newsletters, newspapers, fact-to-face interactions, and emails. They also want to make sure these communications are done in a timely and relevant manner. Being clear also involves altering communication methods to be able to be understood and interpreted in the most effective way possible. Making sure each method is tailored to each recipient to achieve maximum reach is important. By personalizing, organizations show their value in consumer satisfaction and are willing to go the extra mile for clarification.

  2. Listen and receive feedback: Listening and taking feedback into consideration will show the parties that are you willing to improve. It will also show that you are responding and taking actions to issues that need to be or were addressed. This demonstrates trustworthiness and honesty. You are willing to do whatever it takes to make the relationship work. Reassuring that their concerns and feedback are not going unnoticed will also improve relationships and trust.

  3. Be able to handle crises: It is inevitable that an organization or persons will be faced with a crises or risks. In these desperate times, Public Relation specialists need to be able to handle these situations in a timely manner. As they are liaisons between an organization and stakeholders, or whomever the relationship consists of, it is their role to make sure things are handled appropriately. They should provide accurate information, continue to communicate, be truthful about what is happening, and reassure that things will be resolved.

In conclusion, Public Relation specialists need to be able to communicate effectively, be transparent and clear, listen and receive feedback, and be able to handle crises are important implications that allow for long-lasting relationships between two parties.
